Abstract

Urban green spaces are vital for the microclimate and social well-being in cities. This article aims to analyze Praça Alvorada as an urban green space, highlighting its structures and functionality in terms of environmental, social, and aesthetic aspects. The methodology consisted of exploratory qualitative research, based on bibliographic research and on-site investigations. The analysis of the structures and equipment was based on the methodological proposal of Bovo (2009). The results indicate that the square fully fulfills its ecological, social, and a esthetic functions, consolidating itself as an essential public space for the municipality. More than an element of green infrastructure, the site acts as a nucleus of social cohesion, especially for the Jardim Lar Paraná community, which uses the space for free leisure and popular events. The intense occupation observed reinforces the importance of continuous public policies for revitalization and maintenance, aiming to guarantee the safety and thermal and environmental comfort of users.
